I was looking through Mantique Modern’s Website when I saw this and fell deeply in lust. Many of us have considered mounting the driver’s seat of one of our old cars on a few two by fours in the living room at one point or another. We all love cars, and being able to show that love off in a place other than our garage has it’s perks. So after seeing this, I decided to take a look around the Internet for a similar. I don’t need to tell you I found something amazing.
This is one hell of idea if you have a car that you truly loved that has seen better days. I would have loved to do this with my old Grand Prix which I always thought looked great on the side of a road. Yes, it was an old car which had seen better days the day I bought it, but the big V6 coupe was a lot of fun when it ran. It could have easily been converted into a similar couch due to the lover hood. However you really can not argue with the results.
This is one of those project for jack-of-all-trades type guys. To do this, you not only need to know some furniture design and upholstery, but also automotive body work and paint. Knowing a chromeris also a good idea, because buying the parts second hand could be close to impossible. You will probably need to cut things down to proper sizes and reassemble them inside your house. (Would you want to try and carry this through the front door and down a tight hallway?) This will most likely be a heavy piece of furniture as well, I would have an engineer come in if possible to tell you if the floor can take the weight.
But if all those stars align and you are able to find or build one of these beauties, you are a lucky man with a MAN-LAIR worthy of recognition.
